1.📣 Open Call for Story Pitches | From Story to Impact

Under the project From Story to Impact: Training Youth on Field Reporting and Human-Centred Storytelling Silat Wassel is opening a call for story pitches to produce and publish original media content rooted in the realities of South Lebanon.
What we are looking for:
We invite original story pitches that address key community issues, including but not limited to:
• Gender equality
• Youth participation and agency
• Social cohesion and community resilience
• Conflict recovery and post-crisis realities
• Local development challenges and lived economies
Selected pitches will be developed into one of the following formats:
• Opinion Articles
• Investigative Reports
• News Reports
Editorial support & mentorship:
Over a four-month production period, selected contributors will receive:
• Continuous mentorship throughout the reporting and writing process
• Close editorial guidance from a dedicated Mentor and Editor-in-Chief
• Support to ensure all outputs meet ethical journalism standards and apply conflict-sensitive, human-centred storytelling approaches
Who can apply:
This call is open to:
• Journalists based in South Lebanon
• Journalism and media students based in South Lebanon
Priority will be given to participants of the From Story to Impact workshops whose story ideas were developed through the project, while remaining open to additional independent journalists and writers to ensure diversity of voices and perspectives.

The “Untold Voices” Fellowship is a unique regional opportunity for journalists and content creators from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt to challenge dominant media narratives and produce bold content that highlights marginalized issues through an intersectional feminist lens.
What do we offer?
– An intensive 3-day in-person training for participants in Lebanon
– Online training (separately) for participants outside Lebanon
– Certificate of participation upon completing the fellowship
– Access to a regional WhatsApp networking group
– Cash prizes for the top 3 media works
– Opportunity to publish content on Silat Wassel platform
– Editorial support and professional mentorship
Who can apply?
– Journalists, content creators, and digital media practitioners
– Individuals committed to feminist values and eager to reshape narratives
– Applicants from Lebanon (including Syrians and Palestinians residing in Lebanon)
– Or from Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt (for the online track)
After completing the workshops, participants will be required to submit proposals for journalistic reports or articles related to the fellowship theme. The best three reports will be selected by a specialized jury, and six cash prizes will be awarded.

Timeline:

Whether you seek to challenge dominant narratives, amplify marginalized voices, or document overlooked realities, this call is for you.
We welcome all voices and encourage creative, research-based, and investigative contributions.
Accepted Formats:
– Opinion Article – up to 500 words
– News Report – up to 700 words
– In-Depth Report – between 700 and 1,000 words
Proposal Themes (including but not limited to):
– Economic repercussions of the war
– Marginalized groups during and after the war
– Feminism and the role of women
– Youth and youth participation
– The education and health sectors
– Environmental pollution and ecological damage
– Reconstruction and its accompanying challenges
– Displacement and urban transformations
– Long-term psychological and social impacts
– Peacebuilding efforts or transitional justice
– Transformative ideas and community initiatives
– Political and sectarian conflicts
– The role of media and international organizations

We are pleased to invite you to submit proposals for joint journalistic works (each proposal to be submitted by two journalists working together), as part of a project designed to support journalists in producing in-depth and impactful reports on digital surveillance, digital safety, and digital rights, and their effects on freedom of expression, individuals, and communities.
Only three proposals will be selected to receive financial support for producing the reports.
